A WORKER KILLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, February 3. Janies O’Sullivan, a labourer, who was working on a new building in the city yesterday morning was struck a glancing blow on the small of the back by a bucket of hot bitumen, which fell seventy feet. He was engaged in moving some debris beneath a hoist when the handle came off the bucket of bitumen as it was being hoisted to file top storey. O’Sullivan was taken to the hospital, hut he died last night. RAGWORT .MENACE. HAMILTON, February 2. Considering the ragwort menace a matter of urgency, the Waikato Farmers’ Union telegraphed to the .Minister for Agriculture as follows:—“The Waikato Farmers’ Union discussed the serious menace of ragwort in the Waikato, and while recognising the local inspectors’ prompt and strenuous work, they feel that your Department should promptly temporarily increase the inspectorial staff to combat the alarming spread. A farmer who allowed a few plants to get away now has his paddock full of the weed. Our members also insist that Crown lands should be kept clear from ragwort. Every day the question becomes more vital.” WELLINGTON TRAINING COLLEGE AIR LOMAS APPOINTED PRINCIPAL. WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. Tile A 1 inister for Education (the Hon. Air Atmore) has announced that Mr E. K. Lomas has been appointed principal of the Wellington Training College. This concludes a long-stand-ing dispute between the Department and the Wellington Education Board. A!AN DROWNED WHILE UNCONSCIOUS. WELLINGTON, Feb. 3. The body of an unidentified elderly man was found on the shore near Scatoun wharf this morning. It is surmised that he fell over the unprotected edge of the promenade, striking his head on the rocks a few feet below, and that while he was unconscious he was drowned when the tide came in.
