The •‘Sunday '1 inies” reveals details of the ex-Kaiser’s sensational sale of masterpieces from the Hohenzollern collections at Postdam involving at least half a million sterling. The deepest mystery surrounds the transaction. Prominent. Germans bitterly resent the loss of “National, not personal possessions.” and deplore the clandestine dispatch of pictures via Switzerland, thus depriving German ■ collectors of the option of purchasing them.” Germany is incensed at the ridiculous prices at which many pictures were sold. One Hobbema fetched only fifty sterling. Doctor Von Bode (curator of Kaiser Frederick Museum) formally lodged a protest at Doom. “I will give Germany < a chance to buy next time,” replied the Kaiser.
