Joseph Clarke, aged 21, electron! engineer, was sentenced to death at Liverpool, four and a half minute after he was charged with the straw'ling of Mrs Fontaine, his fiancee’s jT mother, on October 28th. Clarke stepped into the dock with his hands in his pockets and pleaded guilty. Justice Finlav twice warned him ir to what the effect of such a pica would be. After lie was sentenced Clarke, with a curt, “Thank you, my Lord.” • left the dock, appearing quite unmoved.. X
