fc EYERYBODYS PICTURES. POLA NEGRI IN “THE WOMAN ON TRIAL”—TO-NIGHT. A woman’s picture is coming to the Princess Theatre to-night, it is called “ The Woman on Trial.” -From reports it tells a crucial story, in all women of all races and clinics confront the world with a problem of love, honour, and motherhood, and ask-—understanding. Fortunately this difficult and absorbing iole is in the hands of a great dramatic artist—many call her the greatest— Pol a iNegri. And it is equally fortunate that the direction of this important screen story was given to a man with the sympathetic temperament and forceful creative ability of Tdaurit/. Stiller, the Swedish genius. The theme of “The Woman on Trial” is taken from a noteworthy stage play by Finest Vajda, Hungarian dramatist. It concerns the sacrifices a woman makes in the name of love. Caring deeply for one man who is deathly ill, she weds another to obtain money to ,-restore the first to health. When her child by the loveless marriage is taken from her through a jealous and deceitful scheme, she runs true to the instincts of woman and motherhood to t, regain the happiness of which she has been cheated. Settings, exceptionally colourful, and backgrounds o'f the Latin Quarter of Paris, frame the action for a cast which includes Einar Hanson, Arnold Kent and Andre Sarti. Is the blindfolded goddess always just? Aren’t there some causes which might justify a verdict of “Innocent”? Pola Negri does some oif the most marvellous acting of her career as the heroine of this thrilling drama, as the woman who dared to do—and did! The usual supports will also he shown. On Wednesday, a Universal air picture, “ 'Hie Phantom Flyer,” and on Friday “ Alias the Lone Wolf.” WONDERFUL ROYAL ZAMBESI ■ } ‘ BABOONS. ■) Tlio Act presented by Paul Pedrini, . ..the- .T’"' Game Hunter and his Royal 'Zambesi Baboons, is different to the usual...donkey Act. Baboons stand in a. class by themselves, being the natural comedians of the monkey families. A little .smaller than the gorilla and ape specimens and not as ugly, theii funny almost human faces set in a frame of brown, hair, give tliein the appearance of really old men. (liey actually talk to you with their quaint facial expression and their intelligence is. certainly abnormal. But with it all they still retain the mischevious fun of all monkeys. One dare not lea\e anything lying about but they will steal • at the same time they positively love babies. They will watch over and eT5n nurse a baby, and woe betide the stranger who dares touch the infant, for although very docile, their huge tusks and claws can lie very nasty when their temper is aroused. Pedrini will present his amazingly clever Baboons at the Princess Theatre on Wednesday next, together with a programme of specially selected Pictures. The kiddies will he delighted wttn these Baboons. But it is an entertainment for old as well as young, and has • - been acclaimed everywhere as the mostastounding animal act in vaudeville. At their first appearance in New Zealand, opening in Auckland they were a positive riot. The prices .for this big attraction are: Circle 3s 3d; Stalls s. Children half price.
