RESTORATION AT ROME. (United Press Association - By Electric Telegi nph—Copyright). LONDON, Feb. ]. The Daily Telegraph’ Rome correspondent says:— A complete agreement has been . readied between the Pope and the Italian Government and it now is only waiting formal signature. The Pope, under the agreement, wili he declared the possessor, with sovereign rights, of the Vatican Palace, the ;, Vatican Gardens, and the Basilica of ( St. Peter’s, and also of all ccclesinstica. palaces in Rome which the Papal State possessed in the year 1870, only allowing the Church use of those palaces. The Basilica of St. John Lateral!, which' is really the Pope’s Cathedral Church, though no Pope has entered it since the year 1870, will become part of the Pontifical State, as will, also the road across the River Tiber, connecting it with the Vatican. Italy will recognise the Papal Sovereignty, and will pay eleven millions sterling for the extinction of the Vatican’s claims. The Pope has specially rc(|uestcd this Vx £11,000,000 to be jlcvoted exclusively to missions and to works of beneficence throughout, the world, in order not to give any appearance to the . agreement of a financial bargain. ROME, Feb. 3. The Pope is planning to hold next year an Ecumenical Council of the Church, which besides discussing questions of dogma will ratify the reconciliation between the Holy Sec and Italy.
