LIME AND LUCERNE
A few of Lho practices adopted in Canterbury lucerne growing have been profitably adopted oil the Pacific Coast oi Canada. The farm writer of the “Montreal Weekly Star,” to hand b> last mail, records what is happening. ‘•The miracle of lucerne in British Columbia,” he writes, “is amazing even experts. Until a few years ago it- waf contended that it was not possible to grow the wonder crop on \ anconver Island or in coast sections ol the mainland. The use of lime- lias helped to overcome the difficulty, along with in ••dilated seed and good cultivation. Over a hundred farms in the areas referred to now have thriving alfalfa crops. Where conditions are ideal as regards soil and moisture outstanding crops have grown.” Whor» essentials of goad cultivation, lime, and inoculated soil have been applied in Canterbury failures are difficult to find.
