BABY’S BODY FOUND. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Jan. 31. The body of a female child, evidently still burn, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found in tile tidal water by the exhibition grounds. THIEF SENTENCED. WELLINGTON, Jan. 31. Rov Gilo Cudbv. aged 25, a thief with a had record, was given three years reformative treatment for theft from a sailor and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within three years. He had been visiting ships at night going through the clothing of the crew. The amount involved was £63 10s. SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. GORE, Jan. 31. Patrick Francis Cooney, a farming contractor, aged 41, who was injured on Tuesday through a collision with a ear while motor cycling near Charlton, died at Gore hospital on Wednesday night. He leaves four children the ages ranging from 13 years to a few months. Evidence at the inquest to-day completely exonerated Erskinc Bowman, driver of the car, and the Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death. SAILING CONTEST. CHRISTCHURCH, February 1. At a meeting of the Sailing and Power Boat Association yesterday the Saunders Cup arrangements were discussed and recommendations to the Dominion Conference carried that all boats he measured at contests before the race, by means of outside moulds. URGENCY OF LIFE SAVING PRECAUTIONS. CHRISTCHURCH. January 31. The many eases of death by drowning that have occurred on New Zealand beaches this year have occasioned the New Zealand Council of the Rova! Life, Saving Association grave concern. At a meeting yesterday it was decided to circularise all centres and all public bodies interested in beaches, pointing out the urgency of more life saving clubs being formed to safeguard bathers.
