BOXING TOURNEY.
AT PR INCKSS THEATRE. A DISTINCT SUCCESS. Hie Pays’ Poxing Tournament held under the auspieies of the Hokitika Amateur Poxing mid (.'ynmastie Club last night proved an undeniable .success. The management deserve great praise for the prompt execution of the various bouts—the whole 22 limits going through without a delay. The spells between the clashing of gloves were musically harmonised by the Master and members of the Black Hand. The exhibition bout by 0. .Taggers (Canterbury welter champion) and L. Moffat (West Coast welter champion) proved a very fast and seientifi • display, being loudly applauded by the spectators. The hoys bouts were without exception fast and keenly contested, tlii> two lightest, M. Keenan and Peg. Groufsky stepping the scale at 3st 1 Ollis. The lion. W. Yeitch and party arrived at 9.30 p.m. and at the conclusion of the tournament the Minister presented the winners with the medals won. Following the tourney the Grey mouth Boxing Association and Hokitika Boxing Club were entertained at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Turner, where a sumptuous repast was done full justice to. Several toasts were honoured, all present being loud in their praise of the success of the tournament, and the splendid exhibition by Messrs J aggers and Moflitt. The happy gathering dispersed at 1.45 with cheers for the host and hostess. During an interval Air M. Coulson (President) returned thanks to the large audience for their generous support, and extended a welcome to Hon. W. Yeitch and party. Hon. W. Veitch expressed, his pleasure at being present and during the course of his remarks, commenting on both .Messrs daggers and Moffitt being of the N.Z. Railways, said they could he relied on to do their best, and fight to the last. Mr Veitch complimented the hovs on their excellent showing and thanked the management for the opportunity given to lie present. Mr A. Behan (Greymouth) was referee and gave every satisfaction.
