Stewart, for failure to attend parade. was lined ds and costs 10s. LICENSING ACT. The Police charged a young man with being on licensed premises (Royal Mail Hotel, Woodstock) unlawfully after hours. Ordered to pay costs 10s. THEFT CHARGE. The police charged a young girl for whom Mr Elcock appeared, with theifl of £4O, the property of her employer, during the last three months. A plea of guilty was entered, with a request to be summarily dealt wjth. Sergt. King outlined the conditions of the case, stating restitution was offered and in the particular circumstances of the. family, as Probation Officer, lie recommended that probation he given. .Mr Elcock also addressed the Court at some length. His Worship granted probation for twelve months, restitution to he made within three months. On request by counsel his Worship ordered suppression of her name, the fact that the money had been used for the support of the family, causing him to agree to this request. DEFENDED CASE. Albert E. Bentley, of Masterton (Mr Elcock) was charged with failure to pay maintenance arrears £42 10s (id. Defendant also applied for an order for cancellation of the order. Air Murdoch appeared for Airs Bentley. After hearing the evidence iff the defendant. his Worship said he would not ask Air Ahirdoch to lead evidence. Defendant was convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment in Wellington gaol, warrant to be suspended on payment of 7s (id per week in reduction of arrears AM '2 10s Gd, and payment of current order of 32s fid per week.
