Their comfort, warmth and the protection they give against holes in silk stockings are especially appealing in wintry weather, with the result that young women’s ankles, unprotected therewith, are now' mast exceptional. The latest fashion lias created a mild boom in a. section of the lioisery trade. At Nottingham, .many firms are working overtime in order to cope with thei demand. Men are earning £7 weekly and girls £3. Whole families in Nottinghamshire colliery villages are living on their daughter’s earnings in this trade.
