The Hokitika District High School will reopen on Monday morning next, when it is hoped that there will he a good increase in the number of scholars. Tn connection with the secondary classes, the success attained last year in the matriculation examinations is of a very satisfactory nature. While the average of passes for the whole dowiui >ll ranges from 40 to 50 per cent, the fact that the whole of the eaadulates from the local High School, who entered for these examinations passed, or 100 per cent., should commend itself to nu rents and guardians. The school is fortunate ill its Rwtw and staff, to whom the success achieved is undoubtedly due. Tn fact, the whole atmosphere of the school is highly satisfactory and the Committee have expressed

their appreciation, time and again, on the general management and the happy results accrued therefrom. Now that the school year is to shortly open, the opportunity should lie taken advantage of by parents to give those in their charge the very best education that is in their power, and in this connection we cannot do better than commend the local school, and its coiulary classes, under capable painstaking teachers, to their most favouraide consideration. Every additional scholar will assist in the general success, as an increased roll number means an increased staff, thereby enhancing the nature ol the tuition given.
