DROUGHT AND SICKNESS

SYDNEY, Jan. 27. There wore thunderstorms in many parts of the State yesterday, and gales following them, uprooted trees, blocked reads, and interrupted telephone communication. The Albury district suffered particularly in this respect. Koine rain fell, helping to quell the scrub fires, hut much more is needed. The shortage of water in many places is acute, and at Portland there is a,n epidemic of gastritis among the children, which is causing concern. Ton children between the ages of five and ten months have died in a week.
