PARTS, Jail. 24
What is believed to he the first authentic: interview with the ex-Kaiser since he went to Doom is featured in “Le Journal.” It was obtained by Modemoi.selie Marise Querlin, who was refused permission to enter the gates at Doom, hut who waylaid the ex-Kai-ser next day while he was walking with Baron Housemarchal.
“Sine,” she said. “I have conic from Paris to see you.”
“Then.” replied the ex-Kaiser, slowly, with a gutteral accent, “you have succeeded.”
Mile, then had the following conversation : “It is my business to see celebrated people.” The Kaiser: “I am only an old man who wants to finish his days in peace.” Mdlle. Querin: “It is impossible you should not he interested in your own and other countries.”
'flic Kaiser: “1 want nothing more to do with politics—only Germany’s interests, l,>ocause my family is there. Sooner or later she will repair her errors.
Mdlle Querlin asked: “And France, sire?”
The Kaiser : “France, Maidemoiselle, has been a courageous country.” Mdlle Querlin : “Do you believe there will be another war?”
The Kaiser, slowly and gutturally: “War, Maidemoiselle, is an ethnographic question, against which nothing ban intervene, but the Divine Power.” The Kaiser then waved Mdlle Querlin off.
At Doom, by Sunday, there will be 48 princes and princesses, when the little Dutch village will honour the exKaiser’s birthday. Prince Ruppreclit of Bavaria, will toast the ex-Kaiser. Already numerous ex-Generals and cx-Admirals have arrived. It was a somewhat pathetic sight with the obese ,elderly people being shown around the garden at Doom, and also the logs of wood chopped up by the ex-Kaiser. They bent their old backs, and called him “highness,” although many of them refuse to call his wife by the title which she uses. The “Derby Mail’s” Berlin correspondent states great preparations are being made at Doom for the celebration of the ex-Kaiser’s 70th. birthday on Jan. 27th. The whole Holionzollern family, with the possible exception of Princess Victoria, whose marriage to Zoubkoff lias displeased her brother Wilhelm, will he present. Furniture has been hired- -to fill the unused rooms at Doom House” 1 The overflow of Royalties will -be accommodated at a local hotel. One hundred workmen are illuminating the grounds.
