The Sheffield Shield cricket quest for youth began to-day in real earnest in the match N.S.W. v. Victoria which opened under ideal conditions. The local side comprise all youngsters except the captain, T. Andrews. The Victorian side, however, contained a few veterans. New South Wales won the toss and provided a great batting display during tlie whole of the day against an excellent bowling display by Ironmonger, Ebeling and Gamble. New South Wales in tlie first innings lost three wickets for 358. Jackson scored 41. Fairfax 104, Bradman not out 129, T. Andrews 19, McCabe not out 43.
