BOLTING HORSE
EXCITING CHASE ON HUTT ROAD
(By Telegraph—Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Jan. 23
A horse attached to a baker’s cart, perhaps imbued with a desire to make a final and spectacular bid for supremacy over the motor traffic, took complete charge of the Hutt road this morning, and scattered all other traffic right and left. Starting from near Ngahauranga, the horse bolted in tbe direction of Petone, with a complete disregard of all the accepted rules of the road. A motor car was pulled up broadside across the road in an endeavour to check the runaway, but the horse cleverly dodged it and continued on its mad career. A motor lorry then tried to edge the runaway into the bank, but was forced to acknowledge defeat. Another car took on the task of pacer, and kept the horse off the bitumen. AVlien within measurable distance of the Petone railway crossing, where disaster was possible, a patrol constable, with the aid of some pedestrians, took charge, and the horse, somewhat fatigued by its mad gallop, was brought to a standstill.
