GOLD EXTRACTION
A NEW PROCESS
A great deal of interest has been created in Western Australia by the announcement made in London by Dr K. BT"*Edwards, that experiments with a modified bromo-cyanide process indicated that ore treatment costs could be reduced to 10s a ton.
Although the general manager oT Peresverance (Mr E. Williams) declines to make any statement until lie receives advice from London, it can be taken that the cabled report is correct. The new process, if it can he applied successfully to the treatment of ore on a large scale, will result in the (elimination of concentration and the roasting of concentrates. It will he possible to treat sulpho-telluridc ore in the same way as oxidised ore is now treated. The change over to the new method, however, would necessitate expenditure on new plant. The general impression among milling men is that the latest metallurgical development gives ground for restrained optimism.
