PERTH, January 23

Damage estimated between £50,000 and £70,000 was done by a bush fire which enveloped tbe greater part of North Dandalup, near Pinjitrra. Driven by a fierce wind tbe flames consumed large stacks of timber. All tbe inhabitants of tbe district assisted in stopping tbe progress of the fire by “means oif a break, and after a strenuous fight lasting all night they managed to prevent the fire crossing into thousands of acres of cleared country and thereby saving their homes.
