The steamer Gahriolhi, which was aground at Nelson’s Bay for three days, was refloated undamaged, and sailed for New Zealand ports.
BROKEN HILL UNEMPLOYED
RELIEF GRANTS STOPPED
SYDNEY, January 22,
Cabinet to-day decided to discontinue its relief grants to tbe unemployed miners at Broken Hill, and a SubCommittee was appointed to ascertain whether tbe idle Broken Hill mines can be reopened with he co-operation of the miners themselvs. It not, tbe Government proposes to discourage miners remaining there, wasting their time and living on doles which aie uneconomic.
