UNEMPLOYMENT
SERIOUS AT DUNEDIN. IV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. DUNEDIN, Jan. 22. So far as the official figures show, the unemployed problem in Dunedin is somewhat loss disquieting than it was last week. The number of applications on the book of the Labour Department was then 310, to-day it was 245. During the week nine men were taken in by the Public "Works Department; fourteen were given work by the Corporation on the Oval; six wont to private employment; three were assisted to the extent of giving them free railway fares, and ciglitysovcii dropped out, these having I ailed to call within a fortnight. On the other hand, there were fiftyfour new registrations of the 245 non or the list, eight are classified as lit only for light work. The remainder consisting of 129 with dependents and l(iS without dependents, - are classed being alfle to take anything they can get to do. ,
