A BIG FIRE.
IN KODAK HOUSE.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 29
A. disastrous fire broke out in the Cily shortly after midnight last, night in a central block in Victoria Street, mid-way between Willeston and Hunter Streets.
The outbreak occurred in Kodak House, a six storied building in which much inflammable matt rial was stocked. Tho lire was first observed in the top storey amongst the p 1 otographic supplies which were responsible for the .starliing rapidity with which tlie flames spread throughout the top lloor. Tho Fire Brigade were quickly in attendance and all the City’s firt ligliLing plant was speedily in use. A ladder was run up to the top o* the building Hint in spite ol the bravery of the firemen who stood at precarious altitude, the water poured oil the flumes seemed lo have littL effect, and a wonderful pyrotechnical display was provided for thousands "I spectators looking on. Fortunately the building was bounded by other brick structures and by dint of great perseverance tho Brigade managed to keep the flames from spreading. J3y 2.10 a.m. the whole outbreak was well under control.
