A DAILY MESSAGE

iy id COMPENSATION Tin-; fellow who was horn wealthy, ami upon whom fortune has never frowned, isn’t as lucky as some people think—not hy a long way. He never has heard, and never will hear, the deep tones, the tender notes, which we have heard, nor will tin* grand organ of Life ever reveal its richest harmonies to him. ft’s our old friend “ compensation ” at work again. The man who has never longed for anything, or wanted if or anything, and for whom everything in life has keen y provided and planned, isn’t lucky. He doesn’t realise it, hut we have him hopelessly beaten when it comes to real life. We’ve graduated in the school of ' hard knocks—you and I—haven’t we? . And that’s the school which confers the degrees for real life. We’ve known hotli shadow and sun- . shine in our time. We’ve heard the sigh of the tired and discouraged who were ready to let go, and we’ve helped them to hold on ; anti we ha.ve ourselves been discouraged and glad of the friendly ifellow who said to us, “Hold on.” We’ve had experience, and oTcl “eom- • pensation ” has made every hour of it worth while. So don’t envy the man on whom fortune has never frowned—lile never yields her host to him. —M. PRESTON STANLEY.
