ELSIE WALKER INQUEST
INQUIRY CONCLUDED. VERDICT ON FRIDAY. (By Tcb’graph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, January 22. The impiest concerning the death of Elsie Walker was resumed before Mr Hunt (Magistrate) this morning. Mr Nortlicroft (counsel for Bayly family) addressing the court said the inquiry had vacillated between a murder trial, an inquest and a departmental inquiry. The whole matter had been made conspicuous by a certain section of the press. There had been suggestions that a foul murder had been committed, and thus bad stirred up public imagination and interest, but there was no evidence of murder. There was a large body of evidence which showed murder had not been committed and in the circumstances there was no evidence of strangulation, and the doctors excluded the possibility of an indecent assault. There was no sign of violence except a small bruise on the top of the head, there was the definite evidence of Mrs Rayly- that Elsie Walker had bruised her bead on the Saturday.
Mr Meredith ('Crown counsel) made a very brief comment, after which tne .Magistrate said lie would give his decision at 10 a.in. on Friday.
