AVALANCHES. STAFF ABANDON STATION. VIENNA, Austria, Dee. 1. Langen, a railway station on the Vorarlhcrg side of tlie famous Arlberg tunnel through the Alps, was hurriedly abandoned bv the staff to-day because an avalanche destroyed the goods sheds and threatened tlie remainder of the station. All traffic between Bludenz and Saint Anton has been stopped T>y the avalanches, which have blocked the track at several points. Near Langen one avalanche- is 20ft. high and 200 ft. long. Expresses between Switzerland and Austria must take.tlie Bavarian route, as passenger and goods services through tlie Arlberg tunnel ha,ve ceased. One of tjie lines from Innsbruck to Munich is also blocked by an avalanche. Snow has fallen in Vienna throughout to-day and is lying thickly in the suburbs. Winter sports have started merrily in all the Austrian resorts. train snowed 'up near Bludeny Ijffid passengers are getting food from the . nearest village.
