Mr C. S. Dalgleish, the Agricultural Department’s fields instructor, who has been stationed on the West Coast for the past six years, and who has been appointed- to a similar position in the Rotorua district, was met on Wednesday afternoon by members of the Northern Districts Farmers’ Union and presented with a fountain pen and gold eversharp pencil. In making tho presentation Mr James Mulcare, president of the Westland branch of the Farmers’ Union, said the farmers wished to mark their appreciation of the courtesy and generous help extended them by Mr Dalgleish during his term as fields instructor on the West Coast. Mr Dalgleish ’s connection with the West Coast had resulted in interest being aroused in the theoretical side ol farming and the adoption oif better methods of farm practice. He wished Mr Dalgleish and his family success and prosperity in their new sphere. Mr Mtilcare’s remarks were supported byMessrs IT. W. Kitchingliam, A. J. Palmer, and If. G. Carter. In expressing his appreciation of the gilts and the eulogies of various speakers, Mr Delgleish pointed out that fanning practice had made a forward move as a result of the general policy of topdressing pastures. One result already strikingly noticeable was the improvement in second and third-class land following systematic top-dressing. The altered economic conditions in farming made it necessary to get rid of conservative ideas and replace them with those which- made for securing every penny the land had to yield, but it also showed that if pastures were improved herds also improved. The West Coast bad a great'farming future before it. Union Table Damask was 2s Gd, now Is Jd yard. Marcella Quills, s.b. 20s, now Us lid ; d.l). 3,1 s (>d, non’ 2(>s bib. While Turkish Towels.
