BREWERY LICENSE OPPOSED
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. ASHBURTON. January 1(5. A deputation representing the Ashburton churches and the Ashburton No License Council waited on the Hon. Mr Taverner, Minister for Railways, when he passed through Ashburton on the express yesterday, to discuss the position concerning the petition forwarded to him through Air I). Jones. M.P., protesting against the granting of a brewer’s license in Ashburton. The deputation received an attentive hearing, the .Minister explaining that it was not a matter for him to decide. The license would lie granted solely on the existing legislation, which would have to be perused bid ore nn nuswei could be given.
