EAST COAST MAIN TRUNK

INSPECTION OF ROUTE. MINISTER’S COMING VISIT. WELLINGTON, Jan. 16. The inland and coastal routes of the South Island main trunk railway and the Lake Coleridge electric power development scheme will he visited by the Hon E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, during his tour, commencing January 26th. when the Minister will leave for Christchurch. He will proceed to Waiau Valley on the South Island main trunk inland route next day, and proceed to Waiau and Cheviot, here he will meet the Hon G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands. The return journey will he from Cheviot to Christchurch over the coastal route of the main trunk. On Monday, January 28th. the Minister of Public Works will inspect the New Brighton protective works, and will proceed to Timaru and attend a function at Geraldine in the evening. Next day he will visit Lake Coleridge and leave on his return to Wellington in the evening. He will spend only one day in the capital, as he intends returning South on Friday, February Ist., proceeding next day to Oamaru, thence to Alexandra. During tile subsequent week Mr Ransom intends to devote several days to inspection of irrigation works in Central Otago, End bis itinerary for that week is not yet completed. He will visit Invercargill prior to his return to Wellington on February 10th.
