Three arrests were- made this week and other charges arc pending against accused. To-day William Lawrence Bowler pleaded guilty to obtaining 17s (3d by falsely representing a receipt for ‘lss was valid. The chief detective said Bowler was met in Auckland by a soldier who evidently knew the run of the ropes and a receipt was prepared for one and a half days’ work entitling accused to the payment of 17s (3d from the Association on the subsidy system. Two others are awaiting sentence, all three to come up on .January 22nd., .Magistrate .McKean remarking that they seemed to have discovered an easy way of getting money.
