HONORARY SURGEONS
LACK OK ATTENTION ALLEGED. AUCKLAND, .January LI “ L am afraid we are trusting too much to the tender mercies of the junior resident doctors,” said Al.r TS . Wallace, chairman <>!’ the Auckland Hospital Hoard, at to-day’s meeting in referring to the alleged neglect ol the honorary surgeons to visit patients upon whom they had operated. “ Some surgeons operate and do not see their patients again,” said Mr Wallace. “Not only should the honorary surgeons perform the operations, hut they should go round and instruct the junior resident doctors as to the treatment of the patients after opeintion. A lot of patients have told me they do not know who their honorary surgeons are. They know only the junior resident doctors. If the surgeons do not attend to their duties in the manner expected of them, the time is fast coming when we will have to have a stipendiary staff at the hospital.” On Mr Wallace’s motion the question of the attendance of surgeons was rei'Vrred to the Finance Committee for consultation with the Medical Superintendent, Dr Maguire.
