Bott.v Leonard, a girl eight years old, hail both lier feet cut off at tlio ankles yesterday afternoon bv a haymower whieli was lie inn; worked on tile farm of her parents, Mr and Airs Alfred Lennard. at Wailiou, near Te Aroha. The child had ridden her pony out to a padoek where harvesting was proceeding. She hitched the pony to a fence and walked to a spot where a mower was being driven over a rather difficult stretch alongside a ditch. The man in charge of the mower was giving the machine all liis attention and did not notice the approach of the child. The girl was unaware of the danger and before the driver realised it the blade had cut through both ankles. The child was immediately rushed to a private hospital. where she was operated on, and it is reported that she is making satisfactory progress.
