HOLY YEAR
TO MARK JUBILEE OF ROPE’S FIRST MASS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrigntj. LONDON, Jan. 11. ’l’lic Times Rome correspondent says the Pope announces that 1020, which marks the Jubilee of his first Mass, shall he considered a holy year, with extra ordincm. He accordingly grants during the year plenary indulgence, on four conditions: Firstly, the faithful dwelling in trie diocese of Rome, and pilgrims thereto, must twice visit three named basilicas in order to pray, particularly for the conversion of sinners and the extirpation ol heresy and schism; peace, concord and prosperity, and freedom of the Catholic Church and Hoad thereof. If persons are prevented by distance or other legitimate reason from complying, confessors may commute them to visits to a parish church. Secondly, additional fasts must he observed; and thirdly, to make additional confession and to partake of extra Communion. Fourthly, make charitable offerings according to means and according to confessors’ advice, such offering to he made an Important work, for example, the propagation and preservation of faith.
The Jubilee indulgence may he earned several times, but additional indulgences must be for the benefit of souls in purgatory. The Pope believes the faiths should hasten to avail themselves of this precious spiritual opportunity Tor morals, faith and Christian piety.
