COMMON W EARTH POPULATION. (Australian Frees Association). (United Service). SYDNEY, Jan. 11. An analysis of the Commonwealth population for the ten years, 1917 to 1927, compiled hv the Commonwealth Statistician shows the population increased by 1,252,791 to (i,251.851, representing an average rate of increase of 2.27 per cent per annum. ARCHBISHOP LEE’S DEATH. MELBOURNE, Jan. 11. The Archbishop had ; been confined to his hod for several days with influenza, hut had not seen a doctor until yesterday morning. Lees was having lunch and his wife was with him when he collapsed and all attempts to revive him failed. Death was due to heart disease, from which he s ufl'ered for many years. He was formerly a prominent athlete and strained his heart during his University career. QUEENSLAND FLOODS. 'BRISBANE, Jan. 11. For six successive days there has been no traffic on the great north coast railway between tiigham and Tully. The Herbert River is ten feet over the railway bridge and the Tally River is over its banks and for three miles the rails are five '-‘feet under water. f
