SENATOR’S OUTBURST
KELLOGG TREATY A FARCE. (Australian Press Association) (United Service.) WASHINGTON, January !). The Senate’s legislative deadlock over the Kellogg Treaty, Cruiser Bill and 'farm relief, became hopeless today, when efforts to reach a settlement wore abandoned, and opponents to the Treaty threatened to start a filibuster, which would indefinitely delay it. Meanwhile a settlement of the other bills grows more remote. Rcservationists continued in the Treaty debate, led by Senator Bayne, who urged that it was a one-sided declaration of British policy certifying that several, nations control the Empire. “With recognition of the new British Imperialism by America, the two great English speaking nations of the world were preparing themselves for a contest in the world competitive struggle for lands, commerce, raw material, and resources. (oncurrent with the Treaty is the mg naval programme. What other does it mean than war? This treaty is not even a truce. It is the beginning of the most stupendous struggle tor world dominion and territorial ag. grandisement. The clash may not come in our time, but the JreaU portends an early conflict.” He added: “First, the commercial war would come, and then one that none but an infinite mind can contemplate.” He said: “The Treaty would legalise Britain’s betrayal of the promise of Egyptian independence.
