HIS FIRST MAKO
THRILL FOR SIR HARRY LAUDER. AUCKLAND, January S. Fishing (from a launch off Cape .Brett this morning, Sir Harry Lauder brought his first encounter with a New Zealand salt water game fish to a successful conclusion by capturing a make shark weighing approximately 2501 b. The fighting qualities of the mako were a revelation to Sir Harry, who, after 1} hours’ strenuous lighting landed his prize. The noted Scottish visitor and his party are highly impressed with deep-sea angling, and consider the sporting camp on Urukupapkupa Island, where they are staying, to he one of the most ideal in their experience. -Mr J. A. .McDougall, of Martinborough, was also successful to-day, landing a swordfish weighing 2701 b, This makes a total of 21 fish ifor the season. Two other swordfish were seen.
