MR HOOVER IN BUSINESS

NEW PRESIDENT’S SUCCESS. It is generally recognised that the newly-elected President of;the United States, Mr Herbert Clark Hoover, will bring to bis new duties the advantage of practical commercial knowledge. Some interesting details in this connection are supplied by a contributor to the London “ Daily Mail,” who says:—.,

Mr Hoover came to London about 20 years ago. Later he set up for himself at No. 1, London Wall Buildings, and from a mining engineer developed into a mining financier and administrator. Mr Hoover and bis brother, Mr T. J. Hoover, were largely responsible lor converting the Zinc Corporation into a commercially successful undertaking. “ H.C.11.” was associated with the Russo-Asiatic Consolidated when it secured the valuable Riilder Aline in Siberia, an asset that. has since, with many others, been confiscated by the Soviet Government.

He was closely identified with the Burma Corporation, now one of the world’s largest producers of lead and silver. When he" returned to the United States, Mr Hoover sold out his shares, and is understood to have made fully £500,000 on this investment alone.
