SCHOONER- TIUIA TURNS UP. (By Telegraph—Press Association). GREYMOUTH, Jan. 10. The auxiliary schooner ITuia, belonging to the Nobel Explosives Coy., and lor which the Croymouth Harbour stall' had been on the look-out for somo days, as she was overdue from Dunedin, turned up from the westward yesterday afternoon about 5 o’clock. She berthed at the wharf about 8.30 p.m. FALSE PRETENCE. GISBORNE, Jan. 10. Kereopa Timi, aged 23, was admitted to probation for 2 years on a charge of false pretences by presenting a valueless cheque which he had altered from six pounds to sixty. - LEAVING FOR ANTARCTICA. » ELEANOR ROLLING. DUNEDIN, January 10. As favourable reports have been received of the breaking up of the icepack in Ross Sea, an earlier departure than anticipated will be made by the steamer Eleanor Bolling for Byrd’s base in the Bay of Whales. Site will leave Dunedin immediately on completion of loading, cither to-night or tomorrow morning. She should reach the base on January 22nd and will then turn back to Dunedin. Should the season not be too far advanced another trip to the Antarctic with supplies will be made this summer. BOAT FATALITY. W.VIROA, Jan. 1(1. Two men, Charles Strong, and J. Val Brown, were fishing at the mouth of the Vlohaha River late yesterday afternoon when their boat was overturned in a strong current and swept out to sea. Brown reached the shore exhausted, and Strong’s body was recovered this morning. Deceased was married and was residing at l‘rnscrtown.
