CHARGE OF ESPIONAGE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright), (Received this day* at 2.0 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 9. A Berlin correspondent reports that after a secret trial, tliei Supreme Court sentenced a Danish officer, Dipt. •Lambourn to live years’ imprisonment for espionage, and his accomplice, a German woman clerk, traulion Stcgcrmann Lu two years’. It is understood Lninbouni contended he undertook certain inquiries on behalf of a friend, who heard of his intending holiday in Germany, huL had not expected the inquiries would lead him to espionage. He pleaded that he only wanted to ascertain if the Nationalist Organisation were planning ail attack on the Danish frontier. The. judge, in summing up. pointed out Lambourn sought information as to the training of air pilots, and manufacture of armaments. It was also clear he was not acting on behalf of Denmark hut for a foreign power working Lhrough Copenhagen. * The judge found extenuating circumstances for Rtegormann, whom love had led astray, but she should have hearkened to her friends warning that Lamhnurn was employin her for I aiid'own was employing her for espionage. Though no power is mentioned all Germany assumes that 1* ranee was meant. It- is pointed out that -Lambourn, who posed as an Englishman named Brown, formerly seconded for tho French army and arranged that Stegermann should get a post in the Ministry of Defence.
