Numerous deaths are reported as a result of the intense cold prevailing over the Al id-west. with temperatures ranging from zero to ten degrees below in the Chicago- area, and dropping to twenty below in cities in tho northwest-. Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, recorded 30 below'zero.
Relief agencies throughout the area are besieged by poor for food and iuol. I here is acute distress particularly in Chicago and Milwaukee.
