With the holidays past and the visit »f the United Fire Brigades’ Association rapidly approaching, there is occasion to move rapidly in the preparations for the friendly army of visitors to invade the town. The advance guard will be arriving hero in about six weeks’ time, and immediately following, the town will be en fete with the reception and entertainment of the visitors. A very full programme has been drawn up .for the purpose, and now the execution of that programme is the matter for main consideration. A large number of workers will be necessary, and these are being organised. There is a call for hearty co-operation on the part of all who can afford the time and have the talents to assist. T.n oarticfilar the ladies of the town aiv being called on to-morrow to attend a meeting in the afternoon, whereat committees will he set up. There will he room for the willing workers, and to keep up the reputation of the town in the way of generous entertainment for visitors all possible help will need to he forthcoming. There will he a weekfull of entertainment to organise and prepare for. andvthis extensive programme calls for a willing response given those prepared to assist. An opportunity is open for which the town should he grateful to the organisers. It will ho a chance to advertise the district as well as the town, and is '.hat opening for publicity on which reputations are founded and becomes the recommendation for the future. The town has risen to a like occasion in the years gone h.v when transport was not as convenient as at present. The success which was achieved then should

. repeated now, and with the ready help which is looked for and expected that should he assured, it is not often a town of the size of Hokitika has the opening which is now being presented to entertain for so lone; such a largo laxly of visitors, yet so good was the reputation to the credit of the place from the former visit, that the suggestion to come to Hokitika again was readily accepted hy the Association.
