FILMS PREPARED

FOR EXHIBITION ABROAD

WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. Pursuing its policy of keeping travellers abroad constantly in touch with New Zealand subjects the Government Publicity Office has prepared a set of films for exhibition on the Orient liners trading 'between England and Australia. At present similar film views are regularly screened during the voyage on the Canadian Pacific boats travelling between Liverpool and Canada and on the Aorangi on her passages from Vancouver to Auckland. The laboratory and studio are now in full working order, the work at present in hand being the completion of the first of a series of semi-historical films. This is a departure from the subjects previously exploited, and is expected to add a great deal of interest to the New Zealand films released. A full consignment of .all the latest films produced by the office was forwarded to the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London by the last English mail for release in the United Kingdom. These included films dealing with farming operations, scenic attractions and industrial activities, and represent one of the heaviest consignments yet sent forward. Many inquiries have been received by the office for further publicity material for distribution in the Far East, in such places as Shanghai, Yokohama, Tientsin and the Malay States. Already these avenues can show a trail of New Zealand literature and photographs, and the fact that further matter is sought after is regarded by the authorities as a most satisfactory result. It is expected that Australian traffic to New Zealand this season will break all previous records. The Governmetn Publieity Office reports that already many Australians are in the Dominion and have been most generous in their praise of the natural scenic attractions of the country.
