STOCK PRICES

BATES AT ADDINGTON. CHRI STCH CBC’ 11, Jan. I. For the first sale of the new year, held at Addington yesterday, the entries of stock were small in all departments. This was, no doubt, due to the fact of tbe sale being held so i.oou after the holidays. The yarding* of fat cattle and 'fat sheep were net sufficient to meet the requirements of butchers, and, in each section a rise in prices was recorded. In the case of fat cattle all decently finished sorts were 2i)s a head in advance of the ruling at the preChristnms double market. Although the entry was short (only eight races were filled.) the sale of 4at sheep opened with a rather shirk demand. However, it was not long before an improvement set in, and closing rates were fully 2s a bead in advance of those ruling at the beginning of the market. On an average fat sheep wore up easily Is a head on late rates. Fat lambs were also yarded in small numbers, but. as the Trowing buyers operated to a very limited extent (the works do not re-open till .Monday), and as competition 'from butchers was restricted now that the 1 holidays are over, price’s were down by Is to Is (id a bend on those ruling at the pre-Christmas sale. There was a good demand for store sheep, especial |y those suitable for fattening. With the abundance of feed about buyers have now more liberal ideas with regard to values. Store cattle and dairy cattle both sold well. The entries in each section were small, and the number of vealers forward was not sufficient to meet requirements. The result was that pi ices •for vealers improved. There was a good demand for porkers., but hat-oners, especially the heavier sorts, did not sell readily. An easing on Into rates was recorded in the prices of ill I classes of store pigs.
