ASSISTANCE TO RACING CLUBS
At tlie Committee meeting of the Westland Racing Ciub Inst night, the following letter was read from the iNew Zealand Country Raring Club’s Association. “J am directed to advise you thatthe Executive will hold the .half yearly meeting at Wellington on Wednesday. January 23id. Clubs are invited to send forward any special business requiring attention, and same will be dealt with. With the change in Government. 11 is intended to arrange an interview with the newly appointed Minister oi internal Affairs, and if necessary the Minister of Finance, with a view to placing the position of Country Clubs before the Government in an official' way. To assist in as complete a presentation of the case as possible, Club? are invited to send forward their views under any aspect in regard to which they consider relief should come, in particular Clubs might forward a brief synopsis of their financial position, indicating specially their liabilities. The main matters for consideration will he: (a) Increased rebate of totalisator tax; (h) Remission of amuse ment tax on members subscriptions; (e) Facilities to telegraph investments for totaiisator;(d) Publication of dSvidents by newspapers; (e) Free transport on return journey for horses attending Country Meetings, (f) reduction of Stakes Tax. I'lio cooperation of all Clubs in the movement will be most helpful and will encourage the Executive to stress matters to the fullest extent. Inviting you to place the foregoing before your Cornmi tee as early as convenient and awaiting your reply. The letter was received. Mr Evans fSecretary) stated he would he present at the executive meeting in question As President of the Association he had been advised of some of the Club replies, and it was evident something would have to be done towards assisting many of the Clubs. The Executive members were representative of both Islands, and the fullest representation! would he made regarding the need foi greater financial assistance and tlr. urgency ifor reducing the drain ol the government taxation which was proving such a burden on the public, the owners and the Clubs alike. .Members of the Committee agreed the fullest support should he given te the Association in its efforts to secure some relief for the Clubs, amendorsed the remits mentioned in tin circular letter as worthy of strong support.
