INNISFAIL INCIDENT

Air Fargan Smith, Deputy Premier, sent a reply to the Italian Consul a non t the removal of the eoat-of-arms at Innisfail, and the Prime Minister, Mr Bruce, sent a communication to the Consul expressing the deepest regret. The Shire Council of Innisfail is taking steps to prohibit any Italian demonstration for the restoration of the eoat-of-arms. • .- MR BRUCE’S APOLOGY. (Received this day at 9.25. a.m.) ROME, Jan. 3. The Italian Consul ;£t Sydney reports the receipt of Mr Bruce’s message stating the fnuisfail incident was due to irrcsponsibles, excited by Christmas gaiety, and expressing profound regret for the grave incivility towards . a friendly nation, for which the Australian people have the highest-feeling of respect and cordiality.
