In strict accordance with Britain’s declared intention of readjusting the “unequal” treaties as soon as a stable government could maintain itself in China, our Foreign Office has agreed to abrogate all existing treaties limiting China’s right to levy duties or deal with her Customs t<u iff as she may think fit; and a similar renunciation is expected from the oversea Dominions.
