TO SWIM COOK STRAIT

MISS COPPLESTONE’S ATTEMPT. (By Telegraph—Press Association). ASHBURTON, Jan. 3. Miss Lily Copplostone, of Ashburton, will commence her attempt to swim Cook Strait at two o’clock in the morning of Saturday Jan. 19th. from Cape Koamnru, head of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Miss Copplostone will be accompanied by a- launch conveying her mother, Mr T. Hartigan (her manager), Messrs Hartley (owner of the launch) and Wisse (helmsman), AVlliting (Editor of the Marlborough Express), newspaper representative, a wireless operator, two officers of the New Zealand Swimming Council and four fishermen, two from Wellington and two from Picton. The presence of the fishermen will he invaluable, as they know the tides and currents, and all the peculiarities of the crossing.
