FOOTBALL.

SOCCER

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

LONDON, December 31

The “Daily Express” says: Germany sent an invitation to play a British football team. It has been de- ■ lined. The reason is because there arc not sufficient first-class players available.

The Secretary stated that the Foreign Office had urged that only first class British players should he despatched to the continent, because it regards it as essential that British prowess shall be well maintained. The “ Daily Express ” in an editorial article describes this as “ an astounding attempt to regulate soccer on the 1914-18 basis,” and as news “the silliest thing imaginable.”
