TYPHOID OUTBREAK
A “CARRIER” SUSPECTED

Two deaths have recently occurred at the Waikato Hospital, of inmates from the Borstal Institute, Waikeria. The second' victim was Alfred Leo Lewis, and at an v inquest>held into the circumstances, a returned that lie died r . from, an attack- of 'typhdicl.'; ; . Dr Hockin; Medical Superirttendent, did not think there was any similarity between the symptoms of the two cases. •»
Cosgrave, 'who died some ten days previously, hacl a -new pitchfork through his foot, and it was thought that he had contracted tetanus. No signs of tetanus were found, but there were pneumonia symptoms, and also some of diphtheria. There are lour other cases -of typhoid in the hospital from Waikeria, and Dr Hochin expressed the opinion* that there is a carrier in institution. One inmate is under observation.
