SUICIDE IN CELL,

INEBRIATE FOUND HANGING

WELLINGTON, December 28

Thomas Pauling, labourer, aged 3' was found hanging in his cell at Mi Crawford Prison, at 1.55 a.m. to-claj He had made a rope by tearing lr blankets into strips and tying the together.

Pauling was,found in a state of help less drunkenness in Lambton Quay 'or ’Xmas Eve, and was arrested and lock ed up at the Central Police Station Pie became violent, however, and wa: removed to Aft. Crawford. Deceaser was to have been dealt with in tin Magistrate’s Court this morning.

THREATENED A PARSON

YOUTH ARMED WITH REVOLVER

AUCKLAND, December 28

James Alfred Essex Grundy, who was remanded from last Monday, charged with assault and unlawful possession of a revolver, was convicted at the Police Court, and ordered V come up for sentence when called upon on condition that he leaves Auckland immediately. The girl to whom the charge of assault related, collapsed in Court, and was unable to give, evidence. Rev. A. V. Whiting, Congregation:* 1 Minister at New Lynn, whose wife had been taking care of the girl, said accused could mould the girl to his wi p just as lie wished. Accused followed witness into the church schoolroom, locked the door, and wanted to.fight, saying witness bad been trying to part him from the girl. It was on the following day that accused went to the bouse with, a revolver.

Constable Boag said lie caught accused and threw him, taking a revolver and four live cartridges from him. Accused stated that lie intended going to 'Melbourne at once.

GIRL’S SUDDEN DEATH

DUNEDIN,. December 28.

An inquest into the death of Margaret Queenie Wright, aged 15, who died suddenly at her home in Mosgiel yesterday evening, was held this afternoon before Air PI. AY. Bundle, S.M. Evidence was given by the deceased’s father that his dauhgter and her mother had returned home in the evening after a day spent at Anderson’s Bay. Shortly afterwards deceased, retired to the lavatory and when a few minutes later her mother went to look for the girl, she found her depd. A doctor, who had been summoned by the parents, stated that he found no signs of injury, and it • was lii« opjnion that death had been , caused, through heart failure. .; A verdict was given accordingly. ; ,
