CAPSIZED

AUCKLAND, December 27.

A sensational accident happened .during the progress of an outboard motor race at- Russell this afternoon, when the' Humbug,’’which' had already won two races and was going well in ’the : third, in negotiating a turn, tipped out her owner, L. Sterecker. ’The boat did not capsize, but continued going round in circles at (fully twenty-five miles an hour. With uncanny luck, it escaped crashing into moored launhes, and in the meanwhile Alio spectators held their breath.

A man in a dinghy rowed nut towards the wildly careering boat. 'Hie latter hit the dinghy, won't clean over the top of it,, and capsized the small craft and upset its occupant into the water. The spectators thought that the man was killed, but lie bobbed no again and swam around, ’lhe impact of tlio collision had the effect of turning the propellor out of the water, and so the boat’s career was ended, and the owner and the rower of the dingli* were brought ashore unharmed. The former was almost rammed twice nv his own boat in its wild career, but swam clear.
