THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
The Fitness of Things
Year after year, a strange thing lms happened at tho Cenotaph in London, when the silence fell on Armistice Day. A single pigeon or a pair have flown up Whitehall and passed over the monument. On this occasion tho same thing happened. A single pigeon fluttered up and passed a few feet above the stone, during the period of silence. One would like to think that this is more than a coincidence—that it is the symbol of peace. Possibly, the incident has a purely natural cause. The sound olf the signal gun in the park frightens some perching pigeon, and the unnatural, rfegion of silence invites it to direct its flight thither. Guided by the lofty buildings on each side, it is forced to make its way over * the Cenotaph itself. Thus, year after year, there is the same strange hap- ) polling. —Loudon correspondent.
