STRANGE CRIME

A rcmaikahe crime was i(‘ported by detectives to-day. perpetrated in a cottage at Arcadia Street, Congee, occupied by Morris Levy. insurance agent, his wife, and grown-up daughter. Somebody attached a garden bos.' to the gas meter and then placed the other end through a window where Miss Levy was sleeping. Fumes spread through the home and awakened Mr Levy at about three a.m. and lie hurriedly opened every window without striking a match. Ho called to his daughter, who was unharmed. The hose was not Levy’s property. A man’s footprint was discovered mar tli(> daughter’s window. Levy declares he has not a solitary enemy, and his daughter knows no reason why anyone should desire to take her life.
